| Back to Case Studies Index |
Name:
Diana Smith
Age: 30s
Then: Diana was the office manager of a family business in the construction
industry. She moved into a similar role with other firms in the industry, in the
role of commercial estimator and project manager. She found herself spending less
time with clients and more time with numbers, facts and figures.
Now: Diana is an office manager and creative-assistant for a successful,
talented and multi-award winning photographer at Imagemaker Studios
in Orange.
Diana says: As a result of doing the Life by Design®
workshop I came to believe that I could find work I would enjoy doing. I resigned,
and registered with three employment agencies. I soon became very clear on what
I didn't want to do. This came from doing research on the opportunities in Orange,
networking, interviewing the gurus, looking at courses, and by declining some
interviews and great jobs. These baby steps were challenging in the
sense that I was nowhere near my comfort zone!
As I had some time on my hands, and I didnt want to waste a second I
thought about volunteering my time with a photographer, so Id have some
fun while learning and being useful. As it turned out the agency had already given
my CV to the photographer, and the interview was more like when can you
start?. I have known this guy for years and we just laughed. I have now
adopted a new industry with my skills and have found a creative outlet with really
happy clients!"
We say: "Diana has been able to apply her transferable skills set
in office management in a new and challenging area."
"It is amazing how often we see things fall into place for people when
they have the courage to take a step and change what they are doing. In some ways
these little 'coincidences' serve as a reminder to us that we are on the 'right'
path."
