How Wisely Do You Spend Your Time?

Your Time = Your Life

How you live each hour, each day, each week, each year, usually translates to how you live your life and spend your time. The quality of your life is in direct proportion to how you choose to use your day-to-day time.  The small things all add up to create the big things – your life as a whole.

Are You Investing Your Time Wisely

So how do you currently spend your time, your week – your precious 168 hour time budget?

You can always achieve a better life by a little simple planning. Small things can make a huge difference. But again, first you need to get clarity on what those small things are.

So let’s do a quick check in.

Your Quick Task (5 mins)

Sketch out in five minutes a typical week for you now, being as specific with the times and activities as possible.

For example, you might start with: get up on Monday at 6:30am, catch bus at 8:00am, get to work at 8:30am, leave work at 6:00pm, get home at 6:30pm for dinner at 7:00pm, help the kids with homework at 8:00pm, watch TV 9:30pm, go to sleep at 10:30pm.

Your Benchmark Score

Now score yourself out of 10 (in the top right hand corner of your worksheet) based on how much that week makes you feel happy and fulfilled.

Many people score 3–4 out of 10. But even if you are scoring an 8, there are always things that you can do to make your week better.

Life Quality = How We Use Our Time

How you live each hour, each day, each week, each year, usually translates to how you live your life.

The quality of your life is in direct proportion to how you choose to use your time.

You can always achieve a better life by a little simple planning.

It is simple. It takes some time, but it is simple.

Time seems to be our constant challenge to enjoying life, but we actually have more control over our time than we give ourselves credit for.

Clarity Creates Control

Few people ever sit down and draw up a schedule of how they spend their time and when they do, they often find it surprising.

For instance, how much of your week is now spent on things that you don’t really enjoy?

You may feel we you have to do things that you don’t enjoy, for example, certain responsibilities. But is there an imbalance?

Can you change your schedule to do a little more of the things you love but hardly ever give yourself time and permission for a little less of the things that that don’t ‘turn you on’?

Get Clear On The Small Things – Now!

Sometimes just the smallest things can make the biggest differences.

What are three small things that you could do this week – something which isn’t that hard to accomplish – but would make an immediate improvement on your life?

For example: Leave work at 5pm one day this week, have a date with someone (preferably your partner if you have one LOL!) or read a book for one hour.

What are your 3 things going to be for this week?  Be specific.

1. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

2. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

3. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Again, once you get clarity on the small things, they can make a big difference.
